ADVISORY FOR PROFESSIONAL WOMEN IN CAREER TRANSITION

You know exactly what you're done tolerating. You just haven't written it down yet.

You built something remarkable in the corporate world. Then the chapter closed, and not by your choosing. The story isn't over. It's just changing genres.

We help senior professional women navigate displacement with intention, design what comes next on their own terms, and build careers that actually fit their lives.

WHO THIS IS FOR

The woman who ran organizations.

And isn't sure what's next.

You built something real. A function, a division, maybe a P&L. Then came the layoff, the restructure, the quiet push - and suddenly the job you expected to hold for years was gone.

The Open-to-Work badge is off. The cleaned-up version is what you tell at dinner. But the truer question is the one you haven't asked out loud yet: what do I actually want from the next ten years?

Clever Octopus is built for women who refuse to default into the answer.

HOW WE WORK

We don't offer a map.

We offer a compass.

Maps assume you know the destination. Compasses assume you know the direction.

We help you figure out the direction first — what you refuse to repeat, what you actually need to do your best work, what your next chapter has to look like — then build the strategy to get there.

No outplacement playbook. No resume optimization. No "follow your passion." Just structured, honest work with two women who were displaced from senior roles in their fifties and built what they wish someone had built for them.

There are three ways to start. Each one fits a different moment.

THREE PLACES TO START

Pick the door that fits where you are.

The Never Again Audit

Solo Exercise · Free

A structured exercise that walks you through writing down the criteria your next chapter has to meet. So the next role you take is one you choose, not one you default into.

Right starting point if you're not ready for a conversation yet.

Let's Talk

30 minutes · Free

A real conversation with Heather or Casey. We'll read what you're sitting with, name the patterns underneath, and tell you what we'd actually recommend doing in the next thirty days.

Right starting point if you want an honest read on your situation.

The Exit Interview

90 minutes · $297 (Founder's Rate)

Most exit interviews happen on the way out of a job. This one happens on the way into what's next. Ninety minutes, one of us, your list.

Right starting point if you've already done the audit and you're ready to see what it's actually telling you.

FREE AUDIT · FOR DISPLACED SENIOR EXECUTIVES

You know exactly what you're done tolerating. You just haven't written it down yet.

You built something remarkable in the corporate world. Then the chapter closed, and not by your choosing. The Never Again Audit is a 15-minute exercise that helps you write down the criteria your next chapter has to meet. So the next role you take is one you choose, not one you default into. Here's what you'll walk away with:

  • A clear list of what you absolutely refuse to repeat in your next role or venture

  • The specific conditions that made your last chapter feel like a jacket two sizes too small, named and on paper

  • A decision filter you can run any opportunity through before you commit

  • Honest language for what you actually want next — not what you think you should want

THE FOUNDERS

Two women. Two displacements. One company built from both.

We're Heather Horner and Casey Gibson, the co-founders of Clever Octopus. Forty-plus years between us in L&D, leadership development, and executive coaching across tech, healthcare, finance, and global organizations.

Both of us walked out of senior corporate roles in our fifties — not on schedule, not how we'd have written it. Both of us did the panic-applying before we figured out what came next. Both of us built Clever Octopus from what actually worked when we did this for ourselves.

Casey Gibson

Co-founder · Conversational Lead

Casey spent over 20 years as an L&D leader, master facilitator, performance consultant, and executive coach across industries. Losing her father and several close friends far too young left her with a bone-deep conviction that life is too short for work that doesn't light you up. That's not abstract for her. When she was laid off, it crystallized something she'd been feeling for years. And then she made it worse. She took the wrong job for the right-sounding reasons, left with no plan, and spent months applying into silence. She knows what it feels like when the options feel thin and the clock feels loud. That's what brought her here. Not just the conviction, but the cost of ignoring it. Casey brings the warmth and the candor to every conversation - the willingness to name the thing nobody else in the room is naming.

Heather Horner

Co-founder · Strategic Lead

Heather spent 20+ years building Talent functions, designing leadership programs, and coaching leaders across finance and STEM global organizations. When the senior role she expected to hold for years ended before she was ready, her first instinct was the same as every client she now works with. Fix it fast, get back to being someone with a title. What she found on the other side was the work she'd always wanted: one-on-one, no corporate noise, actual people making real changes in their lives. She brings the structured precision to every session: the frameworks, the decision filters, the ability to turn a spinning mind into a clear direction.

About Our Name

Let’s be honest. The world didn’t need another polished, forgettable consultancy with "Solutions" in the name.

We chose the octopus because they are a masterclass in decentralized brilliance. They have nine brains and an uncanny ability to squeeze out of restrictive structures that no longer serve them. If you’ve ever spent years camouflaging yourself to survive an environment that wasn’t built for you, the parallel is obvious.

But here is our absolute favorite thing about them: Marine biologists recently confirmed that when an octopus is annoyed by unwanted company, they don't "circle back." They don't schedule an alignment meeting. They simply gather up nearby rocks and shells and hurl them at the offender.

When we read that, we knew we’d found our brand.

You are highly intelligent, deeply resourceful, and officially done trying to thrive in spaces designed to constrain you. Welcome to your next chapter. Let’s go throw some rocks.
